Not unlike its name, patio stone or concrete block fire pits are shallow, well-type structures made from poured concrete or cinder blocks. Concrete, a material known for being solid, allows for such a fire pit to withstand harsh weather patterns. It’s increasingly sought-after, and aside from its numerous advantages (cost-effective and eco-friendly heating, a decorative asset, etc.), it’s quickly becoming a backyard must-have. Concrete fire pits come highly recommended since they’re easy and cheap to build. With just the right amount of determination and a dash of the right material in hand, you can easily DIY your own.

A 3-Step Guide to Building a Cinder Block Fire Pit

Are you looking to build a fire pit, but aren’t sure where to start? We got you! Here is our exclusive three-step guide to building a DIY concrete block fire pit in no time.

Step 1. Prep the area where the fire pit will stand

For a round-shaped fire pit, start by digging a 45-inch wide shallow hole (6-inch deep) where you intend to build your fire pit. Next, use a level to flatten the ground in that area to ensure the base of your fire pit is as stable as can be. Lay the fire pit’s base over a 3-inch depth while tamping it with a mallet.

Step 2. Lay the concrete blocks

Delicately lay the concrete blocks one after the other whilst making sure they’re aligned until you have the desired amount of rows. Lay each block in a staggered pattern to ensure stability with the row beneath. Then, fill in the gaps to conceal any holes. For greater stability and sturdiness, apply a construction adhesive in between each row

Step 3. Finish the fire pit

Once all the blocks have been laid, you can finish building your fire pit’s structure. Now, lay the fire pit kit. You won’t need to use an adhesive to lay the kit. As soon as that’s done, get a match ready! Your fire pit is ready for use.
